Determination of Friction Coefficient by Employing the Ring Compression Test

چکیده
The main objective of this research was to investigate the effect of material properties, strain-rate sensitivity, and barreling on the behavior of friction calibration curves. The compression tests were conducted to obtain the necessary material properties for the finite element analysis. A series of ring compression tests were then conducted in order to determine the magnitude of the friction coefficient, m. The experiments were first conducted for the modeling materials, namely, white and black plasticine and later on, for aluminum, copper, bronze, and brass. The experiments were then simulated via an elasticplastic finite element code (ABAQUS). Contrary to the results available in the literature, where the same friction calibration curves are recommended for all types of materials and test conditions, the results of this investigation showed that friction calibration curves are indeed affected by the material properties and test conditions. @DOI: 10.1115/1.1369601#

متن کاملInvestigation of Friction Coefficient Effects on Fishtail Defect in Hot Ring Rolling Process
Hot ring rolling is a highly nonlinear, unsteady-state and asymmetry process which is affected by many parameters. The friction coefficient between the ring ,the driver roll and the idle roll is one of the problems, which has significant effect on the quality of final product. In this study, the effect of these two parameters on hot ring rolling was investigated based on a 3D coupled-thermo mec...

Fullering process is a type of open die forging. In this research, elongation and maximum sideways spread in final shape of a billet after the first blow of a fullering process are predicted by designing a back propagation multilayer perceptron neural network. Several experiments are conducted using lead as the model material. Billets with three different square cross-sections are used in these...

Ring rolling is one of the most significant methods for producing rings with highly precise dimensions and superior qualities such as high strength uniformity, all accomplished without wasting any materials. In this article, we have achieved analytical formulas for calculating the pressure and shear friction over the contact arcs between the rollers and ring in the ring rolling process for the ...
